Chances are, if you have a fireplace in your home located in the Vent Vac Services. Paul area, you use it during our frigid winters. While fireplaces are excellent for taking the chill off of the room and creating a cozy atmosphere, they can be very dangerous when not regularly cleaned and maintained. It can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if a chimney fails to exhaust properly, and soot and debris inside the chimney lead to a chimney fire.
What Is Chimney Cleaning?
It is suggested that you have a chimney cleaning and inspection annually before you use your fireplace for the very first time. This applies to all types of fireplaces including wood stoves, gas stoves, furnace flues, and pellet stoves.
We offer two levels of chimney cleaning:
Level I – The most common type of chimney cleaning, in a level I inspection the chimney sweep will clean the inside of your chimney removing any built up soot, leaves, debris, and nests of critters that took up home in your chimney during the warm months. They will also visually inspect the integrity of your chimney's structure and ensure all parts are working correctly.
Level II – In the more detailed visual check, the chimney sweep would have a camera inside the flue scanning through it for cracks, gaps and other structural defects. The camera is going to take images that would be needed by a professional for further repair. A level II inspection is advised in cases where your chimney has been damaged during a storm, if you have had a chimney fire or if you are relocating into a home with a chimney.
How To Know If You Need Chimney Cleaning
- It has been more than a year since your chimney has been cleaned
- You use your fireplace regularly during the cold months
- You recently moved into a new home and aren’t sure when the chimney was last cleaned
- You experience poor exhausting or excessive smoke inside your home when the fireplace is in use
- You see visible damage to the exterior of the chimney
